I went to church Sunday night because there was supposed to be some guy there who is some sort of strong Christian speaker. That guy was ERIC METAXES, and he rocked my world.  My wife and daughter ran down to the bookstore at Woodmen Valley Chapel during the intermission and picked up his new book, Bonhoffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy. The book is a New York Times Best Seller, and you can get it by clicking here:

During Eric’s wonderfully entertaining talk, he related some of his own story, and he gave an overview of the fascinating story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. It’s a story of a man who truly loved God, who grasped the meaning of grace and who lived and died serving the cause of Christ. It is also the story of how the Church can lose its way and fail in times of crisis.

After the question and answer session, Eric came downstairs for a book signing, and I took this photo as he handed his book back to us.  I’ve got to tell you, Eric Metaxes is absolutely one of the most inspirational people I’ve met.  He is clear thinking, passionate, articulate, kind-hearted and funny. Eric’s message cut me to the heart: if we truly believe in Jesus, we should truly live for Jesus … go anywhere and do anything God calls us to.

This was written by Chase Jarvis, who is a cutting-edge photographer and definitely my favorite. Chase is not involved in Christian missions, but this guy inspires me. He is creative, pushes the envelope, encourages other photographers and continually gives to others. He wrote the above statement, and I added the title. I actually printed this statement 8×10 and framed it so I can see it everyday. These are words to live by, and it pretty much sums up the reason my daughter, Waverly, and I are doing this blog devoted to Christian missions.

Thanks, Chase.  You rock.
