This is Jacob Castillo, the director of Nuevo Reto. He also pastors a church next to the orphanage. Jacob has been operating Nuevo Reto for over 20 years with very little support. He is such a Godly man.

After visiting Guatemala, Brett Irwin and I can back to a group of our friends and proposed that we sponsor the kids in the Nuevo Reto Orphanage. Our group of friends stepped up and sponsored each child, and now we are starting to move forward with fundraising for education, transportation and a soccer field for the orphans. Also, many of us plan to travel to Nuevo Reto during Spring Break. We hope to help the orphans with several projects, have a Vacation Bible School and take them on a couple of field trips. This just makes my heart soar.

Here are some photos of the two orphanage buildings to give you a feel for the place. I’ll follow this up with a series during the next week of the orphanage director and the orphans. Sweet, sweet people.

A typical bedroom for the older boys. They try to give the older boys more space so they can get used to living on their own when they leave the orphanage.

There are many projects complete at the orphanage.

This guy is so friendly, and I was surprised that his English is so strong. He hung out with me as I went around Fond Blanc taking photos. One of the things I’ve still got to arrange is send him books in English. He and his classmates scramble to find books in English to help them practice reading and speaking English better.
