This is a typical neighborhood street in Managua. My wife, Marla, loves kids, and she spent every available minute hanging out with the kids. She would talk and play with them, ask about their lives, sing songs with them and share Bible stories. Such a sweet time.

This is the city dump in Nicaragua, and this young man is searching through the trash for anything of value. The city dump always has parts that are burning, and the smell is unforgettable. It’s hard to believe that so many people live and “work” in the dump.

Grandmother watching after the children while their parents work. I was struck by the loving and gentle spirit of his woman.

Los Paupérrimo (the very poor). This is the city dump in Managua. I was surprised to find many people, including kids, living and working in the dump. They sift through the trash in search of anything of value. The dump is always burning, and the smell is unforgettable. Every time I think of the people in this dump, it puts my problems in better perspective.
