Grandmother watching after the children while their parents work. I was struck by the loving and gentle spirit of his woman.

In Baja, teens and adults work in the strawberry fields all day, and the young children are pretty much left on their own all day. Trece de Mayo is a particularly poor town, and the conditions are fairly rough. This is a typical young boy in Trece.  You’ll notice the stickers on his left hand, which he received during our mission team’s VBS activities.

During my trips to Baja, Mexico, I have been struck by how much pride many parents take in dressing their kids nicely – despite the fact they live is harsh poverty. I love this little girl’s outfit and how the yellow and white makes her look so beautiful.

My son, Sawyer, meets some nationals in Baja.  As a father, I believe giving your children experience in the mission field is invaluable.  My entire family has been heavily impacted by going on our mission trips.

Los Paupérrimo (the very poor). This is the city dump in Managua. I was surprised to find many people, including kids, living and working in the dump. They sift through the trash in search of anything of value. The dump is always burning, and the smell is unforgettable. Every time I think of the people in this dump, it puts my problems in better perspective.
