This is Arlo Serrano. He works at the Department of Human Services in Colorado Springs, and he is the pastor of a Hispanic church called DivineFaith. Alro is married to a Oaxacan from Baja, Juanita, and they have two beautiful daughters. I became very close to Arlo during our trips to Baja together. He has such a heart for the Lord and Christian missions. You should have seen Arlo during the alter call after “The History of Jesus” play in Baja – he was in rare form as so many came down to accept Jesus as their Savior. I love this guy. I hope the Lord will allow Arlo and I to go on many more mission trips together in the future.

This is the kitchen and bedroom of Pastor Manzano’s house in Trece de Mayo, Mexico. This is fairly typical of the houses in this part of Baja. Their stove did not work, and they had no washing machine. The folks on our short-term mission team pitched in and purchased a new stove and washing machine for the Manzano family while we were there. The Manzanos are such a loving and hard-working family, and it was a blessing to be able to help them.
This is Pastor Manzano in Trece de Mayo, Mexico. When I initially met Pastor Manzano, he told me I was the first white person to ever visit his church. Over time, our families developed a true friendship during our visits to Baja.
Our short-term mission team helped him and his congregation construct the foundation and walls to his new church. The house for the pastor is also located on the grounds, and we helped repair items around the house.

In Mexico, it seems everything goes when it comes to rules of the road. Here, the guys on our short-term mission trip arrive for work in the back of a dump truck. They said it was a blast driving around getting supplies in the back of that truck. Reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in Alabama and how we used to ride around in the back of my grandfather’s pickup. Fun times.
