VBS activities with national kids can be such a ball.
This is Liz Coder during our short-term mission team’s VBS activities in the tough little town of Trece de Mayo.
In this dirt floor church, teenage girls put on a “drama” for the kids of Zapata. The kids sit on wooden benches, sit enthralled by the stories of Abraham, Moses and Jesus, and the kids light up during the praise and worship songs. It’s fun when the Americans sing one verse in English and then the nationals sing the same verse in Spanish.
In Baja, teens and adults work in the strawberry fields all day, and the young children are pretty much left on their own all day. Trece de Mayo is a particularly poor town, and the conditions are fairly rough. This is a typical young boy in Trece. You’ll notice the stickers on his left hand, which he received during our mission team’s VBS activities.
I just love the expression on her face.
